Trump's 'Big Beautiful Bill' Passes House Budget Committee Vote May 18th

On late Sunday May 18, in a rare weekend vote, the House Budget Committee voted to advance Trump's so-called 'big beautiful bill' - the one that includes potentially massive cuts to Medicaid and other government services. Four conservatives that formerly voted 'no' on the bill changed their votes to 'present,' which will allow it to proceed to a new vote on the House floor. If it passes there, then Republicans will face an even tougher task of getting the bill approved by the Senate.

This is the impactful bill that, aside from Medicaid cuts, may affect many other services. It will likely reduce supplemental food assistance, increase work requirements for able bodied adults and strain our state's resources by requiring overly-frequent six-month Medicaid eligibility checks. It could raise co-pays for some above poverty level. And it could potentially negatively impact the Affordable Care Act and our state healthcare marketplace, Connect for Colorado.

Keep speaking up by contacting your state representatives! We must all stay vigilant and continue voicing our dissent to prevent this bill from proceeding!
